Abstract: As object of the paper are lexical features of a German translation of A.P. Chekhov's drama «Three sisters» by T. Brasch (1985). The translator refuses to take the personages serious and deliberately strengthens comic character of the play. He omits the lyric elements of the author's text and substitutes them for alien motives that contain uncharacteristic for Chekhov hard intonations and gloomy humour. As result of such translator transformations the work of the Russian writer receives the comic-absurd reunderstanding.

Keywords: a.p. chekhov, translation, interpretation
