Abstract: The paper is devoted to phraseological units as elements of the Buryat cultural linguistics, which is still at the initial stage of its development. The author affirms the significance of the Buryat language phraseology in the formation of cultural and linguistic competence. The cultural and linguistic competence is based on the texts of culture, on the knowledge of stereotypes, symbols, models, myths, etc., which are operational units meant for analyzing the cultural-national world picture. Phraseological units perform culturological functions at the expense of the shaped base and reflect the spiritual, social and material forms of culture. In this case the phraseological units can participate in demonstrating all kinds of culture regardless of affiliation to any discourse, becoming the linguistic expression of stereotypes, symbols, standards, mythologems. The phraseological units of the Buryat language reflect both universal and national specificity of the picture of the world, conceptualizing the reality.
