Name: The Concept of ГЕНИЙ / GENIUS in the Discourse of Documentary Drama: The Linguistic and Cultural Aspect

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the analysis of the structure of the concept GENIUS and its English equivalent GENIUS in their representations in the Russian film “Free Energy of Tesla” and in the latest film “Pirates of Silicon Valley”. The structure of the concept GENIUS is considered in three aspects of parliament: 1) the structure of concepts reconstructed on the basis of the conceptual space of films against the background of the general language structure of the same concepts; 2) visual representation of concepts against the background of verbal representation in a polycode text; 3) the Russian concept GENIUS against the background of the English GENIUS. As a result, it turned out that, despite the difference in the initial general language stage of concepts (for example, the concept GENIUS includes a greater number of segments corresponding to the areas of such activity), the mechanisms of concept transformation during its transition to the conceptual space of a polycode text occur a shift. It has been determined that the concept of GENIUS, both in the Russian and English worldviews, has a complex structure built on oppositions (‘reason-madness’, ‘recognition-non-recognition’, ‘good-evil’), which can be considered a universal feature of this concept.
