Abstract:

This article delves into a comprehensive analysis of comparative constructions in the Altai language, specifically focusing on the multifunctional lexeme oshkosh (like, the same, similar). The primary objective of this study was to discern the specific usage patterns and characteristics associated with comparative constructions featuring the lexeme oshkosh. The corpus for this article consists of 703 continuously sampled fictional examples demonstrating the implementation of comparative constructions featuring the lexeme oshkosh. Through the application of a modeling method during material processing, this study successfully reconstructed missing elements within statements, leading to a deeper understanding of the linguistic phenomenon at hand. Additionally, linguistic statistical calculation methods were employed to conduct a frequency analysis of oshkosh, further enhancing our comprehension of its usage patterns. The analysis of the corpus has resulted in the identification of several distinct types of comparative constructions. Firstly, there are comparative constructions with nominal predicates, where oshkosh functions as a postposition. Moreover, within this category, comparative determinative constructions were identified, where oshkosh acts as a determinant. Secondly, simple sentences featuring oshkosh as a nominal predicate with semantics of equivalence have been identified. In terms of semantics, the analysis has demonstrated that the primary function of oshkosh is to highlight analogous features among objects, emphasizing their similarities and shared attributes. By elucidating the underlying structural and semantic features of oshkosh, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the Altai language and its unique comparative constructions.
