Abstract:

In the question of identity, the folklore text is one of the main markers of an ethnic group. The main task of the work is to identify the semantics of traditional short figurative expressions with archaic and ethnically special meanings of words preserved in the colloquial everyday speech of the Buryats. The source base con-sists of long-term field records of the author of the paper. Dictionaries and published collections of Buryat paroemias are used for comparison. For the first time, narrow-local dialect figurative expressions are ana-lyzed, which are not reflected in the publications on the folklore of the Buryats. To preserve the diversity of the Buryat language’s vocabulary, it is important to decipher the semantics of forgotten formulaic expres-sions. The basic ethnic models in figurative stereotypes associated with the form of management of nomadic peoples, the inner world of man, and the tribal composition of the Barguzin Buryats are revealed. Archaic phraseological units remained in everyday speech as basic models of thinking of a certain ethnic group. From the point of view of stylistic coloring, these figurative expressions are actively used in ordinary colloquial speech, giving speech expressiveness and pithiness. The author determines semantics of stable statements in which historical, biographical, and everyday details closely related to the lifestyle of the Buryats are encoded. It is revealed that expressions about the tribal composition of the Buryats are associated with ritual actions accompanied by mythological legends. The functions of the main types of tropes, such as comparison, metaphor, epithet, irony, are defined in phraseological units, and the function of irony as a stylistic technique is noted.
