ArticleName: Khakas Non-fairytale Prose in terms of textology Authors: V.V. Mindibekova In the section Текстология фольклора
Abstract: The article discusses textual features of Khakas myths, legends and historical tales prepared for publication in the 34th volume of the Academy of Sciences series “Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East”, “Khakas Non-fairytale Prose”. The volume includes texts selected from collections housed in the Manuscript Collection of the Khakas Research Institute of the Republic of Khakasia. The selected texts display great artistic value and are based on genuine recordings that faithfully reflect the oral nature of their original performance. Altogether, the volume’s main corpus contains 79 texts, with ten more included in the supplemental portion. The texts placed in the main corpus mention all known variants, either published previously or taken from archival collections. This made it possible to characterize the extant material according to its breadth of distribution, and also to determine the number of recorded examples of individual story lines and their functional sphere. The presentation of native texts was made in strict correspondence with archival recordings in a way that preserves their uniqueness and characteristic features. The broader scholarly community will gain its first systematic access to a significant number of texts of Khakas myths, legends and historical tales that reflect the actual distribution of folkloric works in all areas of the Republic of Khakasia. One particularly valuable feature of this volume is that it contains texts in all four Khakas dialects: Sagai, Kachin, Kyzyl and Shor. Each text faithfully preserves lexical, phonetic, syntactic and other dialectal features. Complete accuracy in rendering the material is one of the key methodological principles.
