Abstract: The paper describes the phraseological units of the literary speech on the basis of prose, dramaturgy, and poetry. The author describes the peculiarities of forming the adherent expressiveness of phraseological units, the ascending amplification, the ways of using phraseological units with the fullest unraveling of their stylistic meanings. Phraseological units have been found to participate in the formation of ascending amplification in combinations both with synonymous or antonymous linguistic units and with units uninvolved in synonymy or antonymy relations when use is made of several phraseological units in one context. The device of ascending amplification contributes to increasing the context expressiveness and to performing the suggestive function of phraseological units. The investigation of literary texts makes it possible to draw a conclusion regarding the character of a writer’s individual style based on how frequently he uses this device. The device in question is most typical of the literary style, for when writing his work the author has every possibility to consider various linguistic means.

Keywords: buryat, literary style, phraseological unit, reply, emotionally expressive connotation, negative description; ascending amplification, synonyms, transformation, suggestive functions
