ArticleName: Modus-dictum Comparative Bipredicative Constructions in the Tuvin Language Authors: Shamina Ludmila Alekseevna Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation In the section Linguistics
Abstract: This paper aims at identifying various means of expressing comparison in the Tuvin language, at linking particular language forms of comparison to specific contents, and at revealing some systemic relations between particular forms of comparison and comparative meanings that they convey. We define comparison as a syntactic construction consisting of a certain number of necessary components. The components of a complete comparative construction can be expressed by: a word, a combination of words or a predicative unit (PU) introducing the object, event, action, state or quality which is compared with something else. We consider bipredicative constructions (BPC) to be a combination of two PU expressing their own modus-dictum contents and are considered as the central unit of the field of comparison in the Tuvin language. Keywords: modus-dictum comparative сonstruction, dictum, modus, bipredicative construction, tuvan language Bibliography: |
