ArticleName: «Capitals vs. Provinces» as the realization of the opposition «The Own vs. the Alien» in the works of the 1900s–1910s by A. M. Remizov Authors: Efremova Olesya Alexandrovna Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation In the section Study of literature
Abstract: The paper analyzes the artistic space organization of the stories «Sisters of the Cross», «The Fifth Plague», and «The Wailing Ditch» by A. M. Remizov and reveals the role of the spatial opposition «capitals vs. provinces» in the texts under analysis. Owing to the said opposition, in the story «The Sisters of the Cross» «the alien is appropriated» via the spontaneity of rumor. The story «The Fifth Plague» depicts a worldwide scale province with unstable special characteristics. In «The Wailing Ditch» the opposition «capitals vs. provinces» becomes part of a higher-level opposition «Russia vs. Europe». There arises an acute opposition between «the Own», Russian, and «the Alien», European. Keywords: a. m. remizov, spatial organization, topos, locus, aesthetic opposition of the capitals and the provinces Bibliography: |
