Abstract: The paper considers the relativity of the axiological scale in the characters of the children’s books by Boris Akunin and Gloria Mu. The subject of investigation is the system of intertextual references to the works by Russian and foreign writers (e.g., by F.M. Dostoevsky, M.I. Tsvetaeva, O.E. Mandelshtam, V.V. Mayakovsky, J.R.R. Tolkien, L. Carroll, A. de Saint-Exupery, C.S. Lewis, etc.), which are used by Akunin and Mu to show the causes and consequences of this axiological relativity. The reconsideration of the two main poles of the axiological scale in the two related Children’s Books is considered to be the problem both for the readers and for the authors. The main purpose of the paper is to present the «non-children’s» issues of the latest children’s literature from the viewpoint of the intertextuality theory and axiological linguistics.

Keywords: children’s literature, axiological scale, gender, time patterns
