Abstract: The author of the paper makes an attempt to examine the semantic field of «religion» as a supertheme in D.S. Merezhkovsky’s works on the basis of his second «Complete Works» (1914). The analysis of the meaningful components and their correlations within the said semantic field shows that the boundary between fiction and non-fiction works of the writer is relative the writer’s critical and journalistic articles are a detailed explication of meanings encoded in his fiction. At the same time these texts are used as a way to update and expand the issues and themes through time and space. The big chronotope strengthens the integrity of the collected works, helps to legitimize them as both the structural and semantic unity and makes Merezhkovsky’s picture of the world more distinct.
