Abstract: The paper is concerned with one of the key theoretical problems of translation – its feasibility. The author discusses the language situation in Medieval Europe, the guiding principles of translation, the recognition of the untranslatability problem by the thinkers of the time and the ways of solving it by the interpreters-practitioners.
