Abstract: The paper discusses the utilization of the concept of semantic (nominative, denotative) sphere in the Russian linguistics. It considers different points of view on the number and nature of semantic spheres, and suggests a classification of spheres taking into account two characteristics: observability of objects and their internal proximity to the author of the text.

Keywords: semantic sphere, social sphere, ownership, semantic class, personal sphere, self-consciousness
