Abstract: The paper analyzes the language of artistic conventionality on the paintings of Early Cubism (Pablo Picasso, George Braque) as well as the role of conventionality in the plays of the modern German author Roland Schimmelpfennig (b. 1967). Several important parallels are drawn between the works of cubists and modern plays. Special attention is given to the plays of Schimmelpfennig’s «Trilogy of animals» (2006).
