Abstract: The printed publication of the handwritten tale of Alexandr and Lodvik in 1795 completed the process of the transformation of the Old Russian parable-narrative into the «tale». In the «Tale of the famous knights Alexandr and Lodvik who lived in great mutual consent and were ready to die for each other» we can observe the «folklorization» of the form and the influence of sentimental ethics, which corresponded to the tastes of the «democratic» reader of the end of the 18th c.

Keywords: the tale of seven sages, the tale of alexandr and lodvik, russian democratic literature of the 18th c.
