Abstract: The article focuses on the variability of a linguistic personality in the sphere of orthography with a number of functional antinomies – orthographic vs. metaorthographic, intuitive vs. rational, national vs. non-national – which determine the specificity of the orthographic activity of the native speakers of the Russian language.
