Abstract: The paper uncovers functions of ethnonyms in the processes of ethnolinguacultural identification. The elements of ethnonymic semantic field are investigated in British and American English. The research focus is on historical aspects of ethnonyms development and their semantic regrouping in the result of socio-cultural context changes and linguacultural contacts.
