Abstract: The paper deals with such features of modern electronic texts as intersemioticity and multimedia nature. Studying these features is a new stage in researching the intertextual relations. At first, the authors consider non-electronic texts, presenting the theoretical basis of the notions in question, and only then proceed to electronic texts, tracing the evolution of the traditional conception of the text. Electronic texts are regarded as multimodal, that is presenting the synthesis of diverse semiotic objects or the unity of text and media. In order to distinguish the most common combinations of text and media, to explore the reasons why users combine them and to establish their percentage ratios, the authors have conducted a social and linguistic study, with results being analyzed in the paper.
