ArticleName: The main scientific principles of publication of folk texts (based on the series «Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and Far East») Authors: E. N. Kuz’mina Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation In the section Study of folklore
Abstract: The multi-volume series «Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East» has developed the proven methodological principles of the complex publication of the Siberian material, unique and still persisting. For today, 34 books of Siberian series have been published, which are the heroic epos works, fairy tales, non-tale prose, ritual folklore, and songs. The practical experience is ample to summarize the results. The first and basic principle postulated in the series «Monuments of folklore ...» is the selection and presentation of texts. For the Siberian folklore the reflection of the living folk tradition is of the greatest importance, so the primary role should be given to phonograms and videos. The reliability of the texts should be ensured by the preservation of authentic folk speech in all its lexical and poetic originality, without any literary intervention. This aspect is important for linguists dealing with conservation, development, and transformation of languages. The selection of texts must be the outcome of the study of all existing folk collections. In addition to the selection of texts, there are other steps of preparing the publication without which it is impossible to obtain a good result to introduce for scientific use. These are the folkloristic translation into Russian, creating scholarly comments on the texts and writing analytical articles based on all studied materials – the folkloristic, musicological, textual, linguistic, ethnographic (when necessary) articles. The essential component of volumes is the audio application, which appears today on modern media – CD and DVD. Keywords: Bibliography: Altayskie geroicheskie skazaniya. Ochi-Bala.
