ArticleName: Discussion on the translation strategies in German periodicals of 1950–1980s (based on the translations of S. A. Esenin poetry) Authors: E. S. Khilo In the section Study of literature
Abstract: The paper analyses different approaches to the definition of «translation strategy» in Germanspeaking perception of the S. Esenin heritage. S. Esenin’s creative work has extensive translational, publishing and research receptive history in Germany. It also has been the subject of German authors’ reflection concerning the most appropriate translation strategy. As a result of this reflection, the polarity of the translation perception strategies was clearly manifested. Those strategies were followed by leading theorists and experts of the German-speaking reception of S. Esenin: one side being the strategy of creative, dialogic (in the terminology of P. Celan), dialectical (in the understanding of F. Mierau) translation, the second side presented by the idea of a literal, philological translation, by D. Chizhevsky, K. Borowski and L. Müller. But the desire to transfer the original poetics of Esenin to the German language integrated both sides.
