ArticleName: The plot of «The second coming of Christ» in the novels of V. Sharov Authors: I. V. Asheulova In the section Study of literature
Abstract: The most representative novels of V. Sharov are considered, in which the plot of the Second coming of Christ defines the poetics and the artistic historiosophy («Rehearsal», «And should not I spare...», «Resurrection of Lazarus»). The possibility of Christ’s coming in a world filled to the brim with misery and death pushes people to the realization of utopian projects contributing to the illusory change of reality and history. Waiting for Christ’s coming, the heroes of V. Sharov’s novels make collective (a religious sect in «The Rehearsal», choir in «And should not I spare...»), or individual (Alexey Balmenov in «And should not I spare...», Kolbarsov's brothers in «Resurrection of Lazarus») dialogue with God in hope of understanding a single concept of being and its own destiny. In the novels of Sharov the driving force of history is the fanatical people's faith in the coming Paradise created with its own hands, its own suffering. Having heard and having seen these efforts, the suffering and hopeless sense of human history, God has to hear the «revolutionaries » and participate in the overall process of the termination of history. Christ in this context starts to be perceived as revolutionary, the main character of the Russian revolution, a universal image of its goals and objectives. Through the plot of the Second coming of Christ the basic idea of the artistic historiosophy of Sharov is formed – the origins and meaning of the Russian revolution are in the basis of Russian life and history, their religion, utopian and eschatological features.
