ArticleName: The mirror two-faced image of the protagonist of the novel by D. S. Merezhkovsky «Resurrected Gods. Leonardo da Vinci» Authors: G. S. Zueva, G. E. Gorlanov In the section Study of literature
Abstract: The work is aimed at interpreting drawings and pictures of a protagonist of a novel by D. S. Merezhkovsky «Resurrected Gods. Leonardo da Vinci» in order to comprehend the Leonardo’s character. The authors conduct an iconographic analysis of episodes where D. S. Merezhkovsky describes the following pictures of the famous Italian artist: «The Last Supper », «The Annunciation», «The Madonna in a Grotto», «Leda and the Swan», «Gioconda» and some drawings. The main goal is to interpret the works of D. S. Merezhkovsky’s protagonist in terms of psychology and to define some conceptual features of artist’s character as a literary type. In this regard Leonardo’s image is compared with the image of another character – Evtihiy Gagara, the Russian icon painter.
