Abstract: In this paper an attempt is made for the first time to elucidate the influence of Immanuel Kant’s philosophy of idealism on the world-view of Mikhail Prishvin and to identify the influence of the German philosopher’s culturological ideas on the subject matter and the range of problems in M. Prishvin’s short novel «Ginseng». The author of the paper considers the Kantian ideas about the relation between nature and culture, beauty of art and that of the natural world, culture and civilization. She also notes that a significant place in the philosophy of Kant is held by the questions of ethnic cultures. Defining the discourse of the novel «Ginseng» as autobiographical, she comes to the conclusion that the culturological reflections of Immanuel Kant tune with the artistic world of the work. The range of problems raised in the novel reflects the main ethic and aesthetic propositions of the Kantian concept of culture and reveals M. M. Prishvin to the reader as a writer of high moral sense.
