ArticleName: Terminological vocabulary in Mongolian-Russian dictionaries Authors: Tsyrenov Babasan Dorzhievich The Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ulan-Ude, Russian Federation In the section Linguistics
Abstract: This paper discusses the features of presenting the terminological vocabulary in Mongolian-Russian dictionaries. In the Mongolian-Russian dictionary the terms amount to 17 % of the glossary, in the Buryat-Russian dictionary – 12 %, and in the Kalmyk-Russian – 7 %. A significant number of terms in Mongolian-Russian dictionary could be explained by a high level of development of terminology in the Mongolian language. The development of national terminology in Buryat and Kalmyk slowed down because of an active borrowing of terms from the Russian language. This is the reason why the names of plants and animals predominate over the technical, industrial, economic and other terminology in these languages. The formation and evolution of terms in Mongolian languages were based on the traditional popular terminology including the names of plants and animals, ethnographic vocabulary: realia of nomadic life, the national cuisine etc. Keywords: terms, terminological vocabulary, mongolian languages, dictionaries Bibliography: |
