Name: Reflection of a public language personality’s intellectual substyle in a discourse

Abstract: The paper is devoted to an analysis of the language means and ways of representing A. A. Venediktov’s intellectual sub-style. The research is based on the discourse of the famous journalist’s public language personality and includes various speech genres such as interview, and blog that were represented on the radio station «Echo of Moscow» website in 2014. The intellectual sub-style is considered as one of the components of the cognitive style of the language personality along with mental-psychological, thesaurus and epistemological sub-styles reflecting different sides of man’s cognitive activity with regard to his emotional and intellectual motivation and psychological peculiarities; specificity of the personality’s informational thesaurus, its simplicity / complexity, scale, depth and width, variety and originality of associations; reliance on the material and practical experience, on theory and logic or on figurative perception of reality. The intellectual sub-style is defined by the author as intellectual peculiarities, characteristic of the language personality, reflected in its discursive practices, positively or negatively estimated in society (in case of their absence), inherent in the personality from the birth and / or acquired in the process of education. These intellectual peculiarities include the capability for effective intellectual and creative activity which is expressed in processing various information (complicated, abstract and day-to-day), analyzing, comparing, synthesizing, generalizing, obtaining on this basis some new information, in the possibility of long-term projection, availability of knowledge, intellectual interests and achievements in the intellectual sphere, quick comprehension of and response to situations, significance and scale of thoughts, ability to sense subtexts, motives and moods of surrounding people, possibility of using for definite aims.
