Abstract: The papers focuses on three variations of Gogol’s Petersburg tales, namely, “The Nose”, “The Overcoat” and “The Portrait”, by contemporary American authors Philip Roth, Tom G.Boyle and Gary Shteyngart. The updates of these particular tales in some mystical way continue Gogol’s plot of metamorphosis in mind and body and create an English text on deformations of personality in contemporary world.
