ArticleName: GENRE SPECIFICITY OF SIBERIAN «STUDENT COLLECTION»: ARTISTIC AND JOURNALISTIC ASPECTS Authors: E. A. Makarova Tomsk State University, Tomsk, Russian Federation In the section
Abstract: The paper focuses on the phenomenon of the student collection at different historical and cultural stages of its development. Siberian student collections of the 19th – 20th centuries are shown in the context of samizdat and the formation of the almanac as a genre. Unlike almanacs, student collections are complex by nature, because, in addition to literary works, they published a lot of sociocultural essays, due to which the author can employ a comprehensive research method to simultaneously address aesthetic, journalistic and sociocultural content. The author describes the general typology of publications as well as specificity of the structure, content, author's and reader's corps of the genre under analysis at various stages of the development of literature and book publishing of Siberia. It is shown that the first Siberian student collections appeared in the early 19th century to reach the peak in the early 20th century. Their development eventually lead to the modification of the almanac-type collections and formation of a wider readership among students of the university, gymnasiums, secondary, vocational and workers’ schools and teaching staff. The specificity of this type of edition is determined by its documentary basis with an artistic component and original author's body. The epoch of the forming Socialist realism in the late 1920s and early 1930s, also known as the period of the «first five-year plans» or «the great breakthrough» is connected with the domination of RAPP (The Russian Association of Proletarian Writers) with its regional branches, which led to mass-literature with a greater enrolment of the working class. The almanac of this time represented, in fact, a certain extra-literary normative type of edition commissioned by the state. It has been proved that the change in historical and cultural paradigms, especially during the revolutionary upheavals and the pre-war period, caused an increasing substitution of literary materials with journalistic essays of extremely sociological nature. Nevertheless, according to the hypothesis put forward in this paper, the format of the student collection becomes relevant for further development of the genre. It will actively develop during the «Thaw», which will bring about the formation of new poetic studios and friendly literary circles among Siberian students and reveal a qualitatively different approach to literary reality and new behavioural models of the author- and readership.
