Abstract: The article analyses the figurative representation of the feelings of love, affection, adoration by metaphorical meanings developing in Russian verbs of motion and reflecting all the stages in the formation and break of love relationships: from courtship (ходить, бегать за кем-л., крутить/ся, кружить/ся, вертеться, преследовать etc.) to divorce/break up relationships (разбежаться, разойтись, уйти, сбежать, увести жену / мужа etc.). Verbs of motion in metaphorical emotive meanings are to a significant extent a specific way of linguistic representation of the emotional state and emotional attitude of love for the Russian picture of the world. In the present study, two scenarios are considered in metaphorical terms: 1) to seek attention, reciprocal feelings from the object of one’s passion/love by constantly being near, pursuing, not giving passage to this very object and thus demonstrating one's feelings and 2) to complete a love/matrimonial relationship. The complexity and variability of the axiological content of these lexical units is due to the multidirectionality of emotional and evaluative interpretation of the situation. The assessment of different interpreters to a significant extent depends on the stereotypical ideas of society about who should/can care for whom, when and in what way, i.e. show feelings of love/passion for the object of their adoration.
