Name: Modern Olfactory as an Object of Interdisciplinary Research

Abstract:

The article discusses key approaches to the study of the phenomenon of olfactory perception, depending on the position of the interpreter. Despite the different “starting points” of different fields of knowledge studying olfactory perception, there is a significant proportion of overlap that allows us to explain the complex nature of ol-factory impressions and the features of perceptual and cognitive activity in general. The author presents an analytical review of scientific papers devoted to the study of smell as a biological and semiotic phenomenon, outlines various philological approaches to the study of the odoroalfactory fragment of the dictionary: structural-semantic, diachronic, comparative, cognitive, discursive, etc. Promising interdisciplinary problem areas of olfactory perception interpretation are identified that require linguistic development, including the study of the features of verbalization of olfactory perception of social reality and territorial, social, gender and others human identity through smell, the formation of metaphorical models of smell in different types of discourse, the formation of a figurative, value-based odoristic fragment of the worldview.
