Abstract: The current profile of literary pragmatics and perspectives of the discipline’s development are discussed in relation to the “pragmatic” or “experiential’ turn in the humanities – the renewed interest in the early pragmatist philosophy and the growing influence of enactivism. The shape of literary pragmatics changes as cognitive studies focus increasingly on the bodily bases of aesthetics and meaning, the mimetic, non-symbolic aspects of communication and the category of “presence” (perceptual illusion of nonmediation). Of relevance are the approaches to language as enacted and experienced, and to literary style as a participatory, interactive sense-making practice. Literary pragmatics in this newer key is particularly suited to study the transmedia dynamics of a literary text and to foster the interdisciplinary cooperation of literary scholarship with life sciences (psychology, anthropology, neuroaesthetics).
