Brief scientific biography

Saule Tazhibayeva graduated from Almaty pedagogical institute of Foreign Languages (1990). She did the graduate program at Novosibirsk State University (1985–1990). In 1991 Saule Tazhibayeva defended the candidate’s thesis «Reason and event polypredicative constructions in Kazakh in comparison with Turkic Languages of Siberia: Altay and Tuvan» (scientific supervisor was Professor M. I. Cheremisina). From 1999 to 2001 S. Tazhibayeva was a senior scientific researcher at the Institute of Philology, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science. In 2004 S. Tazhibayeva defended her doctoral dissertation «Causal Relations in Kazakh (comparative aspect)».

She was the research supervisor from Kazakhstani part of the international project «Interaction of Turkic languages in the post-Soviet Kazakhstan», jointly held with the Berlin Free University (FRG) granted by the Volkswagen Foundation (2014–2019), as well as a research project funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. She is experienced in conducting interdisciplinary joint research projects with experts in information systems, conducting sociolinguistic research, creating a database and visualization (www.tyurki.weebly.com).

Professor Tazhibayeva is the author of 2 monographs, 5 textbooks, and more than 100 research articles, she also has 10 publications in the Scopus and WoS database journals. She is on the editorial board «Turkic Languages» (Harrassowitz Verlag Wiesbaden), L.N. Gumilyov ENU Bulletin — Philology Series.

Saule Tazhibayeva is an Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, awarded by the Ministry of Science and Education of Kazakhstan the titles ‘Best University Faculty member 2014’, ‘Best scientific researcher 2021’, and she has been awarded the ‘Birlik’ gold medal by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (2021).
