Brief scientific biography

Shaping of Galina E. I. Sheikin). While studying at the conservatory, she combined her studies with the work of a laboratory assistant at the Center for Musical and Ethnographic Research of North Asia, went on an expedition to Altai, to the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District, performed musical decoding and systematization of the collected materials. In 1991 she graduated from the Conservatory, defending her thesis «Ritual Singing and Lyric Narrative in Mansi Musical Folklore». In 1995 she graduated from postgraduate studies with a degree in ethnomusicology. In 2001 she defended her candidate’s thesis «Ritual music of the Mansi: context, functioning, structure» in the specialty 17.00.02 — Musical art. Since 2000 Soldatova has been working in the Department of Folklore of the peoples of Siberia at the Institute of Philology of the SB RAS, since 2008 — as a leading researcher. She conducts the author’s and editorial work in musicological sections (articles, note transcriptions, scientific reference apparatus, audio application) of the academic series «Monuments of folklore of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East». Since 2015 she is the Executive Secretary of this series of volumes. Galina E. Soldatova is the participant and organizer of complex and musical-ethnographic expeditions to the places where peoples of Siberia and the Far East (Khanty, Mansi, Kets, Evenki, Altaians, Khakasses, Tuvans, Koryaks, Evens) have lived historically.
