Brief scientific biography

Mikhail Grigorievich graduated from the F.P. Pavlov Cheboksary Musical College (1967) with a degree in Music Theory, Faculty of Theory and Composition of the Kazan State Conserv-atory (1972) with a degree in Musicology.

Candidate’s dissertation: «Rhythmic base of the Chuvash folk song (on the problem of studying the quantitative metric system in musical folklore)» (N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory, 1984).

Doctoral dissertation: «The Chuvash folk musical and poetic system and its parallels with different nations» (State Institute of Art Studies, 1995). Teachers: V. A. Khodyashev, O. A. Sukhanova, Yu. A. Ilyukhin, A. G. Yusfin, Yu. V. Vinogradov.

Since 1972, he has been working at the Chuvash State Institute for the Humanities, where he successively held the positions of junior researcher (1972–1974), senior researcher (1974–1992), deputy director for scientific work (1992–1994), leading researcher (1994). —1996), Head of the Department of Study of Art (1996–2014), Chief Researcher (since 2014) in the field of study of art.

The starting point for M. G. Kondrat’ev in science was musical folklore, in which he deep-ly submerged during many years of field practice in the regions of Chuvashia, Tatarstan, Bashkir-ia and the Orenburg region. The anthologies of folk songs compiled by him contributed to the introduction into scientific and practical circulation of the most valuable layer of musical and po-etic creativity of the Chuvash, as well as to the study of musical and folklore traditions of ethno-graphic and ethno-territorial groups of the Chuvash population. Mikhail Grigorievich has re-searched the folk musical and poetic system through hundreds of articles, a number of mono-graphs and dissertations.

For several decades, the musicologist has been researching the problem of parallels of eth-nic cultures, focusing on the Chuvash and turning his attention to the song folklore of the neigh-boring Volga peoples — the Mari, Udmurts, Tatars, Bashkirs, also touching upon the ancient ori-gins of the Bulgarians and Hungarians.

In the works of M. G. Kondrat’ev, the professional musical art of Chuvashia has received extensive and deep research in all its main areas — composing, performing, and professional train-ing.

Scientific and organizational activity

Member of the Academic Council of the Chuvash State Institute for the Humanities (since 1996), member of the Dissertation Council of the M.I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conserva-tory (since 2001), member of the editorial board of the series «Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East» (since 2003), member of the editorial board of the scientific journal «Chuvash Humanitarian Bulletin» (since 2006), member of the dissertation council of the N.G. Zhiganova Kazan State Conservatory (since 2007), member of the editorial board of the scientific journal «Problems of Musical Science» (since 2007), member of the editorial board of the scientific journal «Music: Art, Science, Practice» (since 2012).

Member of the Union of Composers of the USSR (since 1978).

Pedagogical activity

For a long time he taught at the F.P. Pavlova Cheboksary Musical College. Currently the professor passes on his rich experience and knowledge to students of the I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University, as well as to students and graduate students of the I.Ya. Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical University. M.G. Kondratiev is the founder of the scientific school of theory and history of the Chuvash folk and professional musical art. Prepared 3 candidates of sciences in the specialty «Musical Art».

Awards and honorary titles

Honored Art Worker of the Chuvash Republic (1991), fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Chuvash Republic (1992), fellow of the International Academy of Sciences of Pedagogical Education (1999), Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation (2001), laureate of the State Prize of the Chuvash Republic in the field of literature and arts (2004), medal of the Order of Merit for the Chuvash Republic (2008), medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree (2019).
