Abstract:

This article examines the semantic and syntactic properties of Buryat constructions expressing the causation of love. The integrated approach to syntactic structures, encompassing structural, semantic, and emotive aspects, underpins the relevance of this work. This study presents the first attempt to analyze Buryat language constructions that convey the causation of love. The purpose was to describe the semantic and structural features of syntactic constructions under analysis. The study has revealed that causative constructions can be divided into two types. These are constructions with the value of the causation of love for someone and the causation of love for something. The first type can be expressed using constructions with morphological causatives. The causative verbs durl-uul-ha and inagl-uul-ha are seldom used to describe causing feelings of love. It may be due to native speakers rarely viewing love as something that can be caused, i.e., people cannot be made to love. Incentives, even when offered, do not mitigate the negative evaluation of such influences. Findings demonstrate that external influences are not sufficient to stimulate emotional responses. The first type of causation is expressed through metaphorical combinations that intensify the emotive semantics. One of the basic components of constructions of the second type of causation can include an analytical phrase formed using the auxiliary causative verb bolgo-ho and an adjective. Also, the causation of the second type can also be expressed by a polypredicative construction, which uses future participles with-out case and possessive indicators.
