ArticleName: Problems of reference in the studies conducted by M. I. Cheremisina Authors: I. E. Kim Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch RAS, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation In the section К 100-летию М. И. Черемисиной
Abstract: This paper focuses on the issues related to the theory of reference proposed by M. I. Cheremisina, with particular attention on her collaboration with T. A. Kolosova. The scholar was not involved in studying this particular area of syntactic semantics. Nevertheless, her attention was drawn to at least three problems linking reference to the syntax of simple and complex sentences. The first is the question of the referent of an elementary simple sentence and its transforms-nominalizations. The second is the problem of anaphoric pronouns as analytical means of the connection of predicative parts of a complex sentence. The third is the concept of monosubjectivity as the referential identity of the subjects of predicative units in a complex sentence. When considering the referent of an elementary simple sentence, M. I. Cheremisina and T. A. Kolosova ad-here to the range of concepts used in syntactic semantics, the situation and the state of affairs, albeit excluding the event concept, attributing it to the level of a proposition. The mechanism of pronominal connection in complex sentences is attributed by the scholars to single-place pronominal connectors (k-pronouns) and specific subclasses of two-place connectors, namely k- and t-pronouns. A substantial contribution to the study of reference was the delineation of monosubjectivity. This discovery has significantly impacted the understanding of polypredicative syntax within Russian linguistics and comparative linguistic analysis. M. I. Cheremisina introduced the terms “double-subject” and “zero subject” to describe the means of expressing monosubjectivity within Russian syntax.
