ArticleName: “The cherry stone of personality” of Maya Ivanovna Cheremisina: the beginning of a scientific career at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center The 1960s Authors: G. M. Zaporozhchenko Institute of History of the Siberian Branch of RAS, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation In the section К 100-летию М. И. Черемисиной
Abstract: The primary focus of this paper is the turning point in the biography of the esteemed linguist M. I. Cheremisina, related to her appointment to the staff of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1965. Special attention is paid to the socio-anthropological dimension of science, in particular, the incorporation of women into the field of science. A methodological approach is actualized based on the modernization paradigm, the anthropology of academic life, biographistics, and gender history. The analysis covers documents, published memoirs, autobiography, letters, and diaries by Cheremisina. In the late 1950s, Cheremisina lived and worked in Tula. The experience of teaching at the pedagogical institute led her to engage in significant introspection. The education system suffered from subpar quality due to students' lack of interest in acquiring profound knowledge. Meanwhile, she longed for a full-fledged teaching and research job. While visiting Akademgorodok, she became convinced that it presented promising prospects for scientific and social advancement, due to the presence of a contemporary scientific community. Obtaining an invitation for both the job position and the apartment proved to be challenging. Nevertheless, the aid provided by her sister and colleagues proved to be highly advantageous. Profound enthusiasm for science, extensive linguistic expertise, accomplished track record in mathematical linguistics, unwavering determination, and diligent efforts established her credibility within the academic community of Akademgorodok. As a result, Cheremisina successfully executed a life strategy of relocating to Siberia for work. Keywords: M. I.
