Abstract: This article deals with the problem of the gradation of the colour adjectives in French and Azerbaijani. Two classes of adjectives are distinguished on the basis of their lexico-semantic properties: categorising colour adjectives, which draw classifying distinctions within the field of colour and general characterising colour adjectives, whose essential function is to provide information about the light, saturation, brightness of a given colour and which combine with the former type, or to characterise it by relating it to a different colour. The author considers that there exist three degrees of comparison of colour adjectives in two comparing languages, as it is in most indo-European languages. To testify to her view point the author states the way and the means of expressing of quality grade and degrees of comparison.
