Name: Publication of non-fairytale prose in the series “Monuments of Folklore of Peoples of Siberia and the Far East”: methods and approaches

Abstract: The article describes the methodology and principles of publishing the volumes of non-fairytale prose in the series “Monuments of Folklore of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East”. The selection of texts for publication takes into account, on the one hand, the prevalence of the story, on the other – the artistic and language advantages of the text; texts on similar subjects that are not included in the main part of the volume are placed in the variants. The genre classification is subject to the thematic classification, taking into account the fact that the texts on similar subjects may be treated as the same genre or a different one. Notes to the national text help to characterize more completely the language of folklore. In the reference section of the volume the indexes to texts are placed (lists of characters, place names), as well as indexes of different information about the texts. The solution of these issues is offered on the basis of experience gained while working on the series “Monuments of Folklore... ”, in which there are published three volumes of non-fairytale prose of the Turks of southern Siberia: Tuvinians, Altaians and Khakasses.
