Abstract: The paper discusses the first attempt to define the addressee of V.A. Zhykovsky’s late essay «On 1848». The author of the paper puts the bibliographic characteristic of the personality of the German count, patron, poet, translator, and painting-collector A.F. von Schack into scientific use for the first time and reveals the most obvious of the possible objects of mutual interest for Shack and Zhykovsky: literary soiree, translation of the ancient Persian and Indian epic literature.
