Abstract: Described in the paper is the functioning in the Internet discourse of a precedent phenomenon has acquired the status of text of influence as a result of an increase in the sociocultural topicality of the media concept petroleum. The idiom «Eternity smells of oil» going back to the cult song of the same name by the rock poet Egor Letov has gained a powerful interpretative and reflexive support in a network discourse.
