Abstract: The paper describes the semantic structure of adjectives formed from the names of the human body parts using the prefixes без- (бес-). The author of the paper seeks to find what meanings are related to the Russian linguistic picture of the world with the meaning «absence». The notion of the norm is proved to be the most important com-ponent of this fragment of the Russian linguistic picture of the world. The Russian native speaker is shown to consider an ideal physical appearance of a man as a good correspondence to the quantitative and qualitative norm. The qualitative norm in this case is understood as the performance of the anatomic and secondary function by the respective part of the body.

Keywords: Сonceptualization, picture of the world, physical appearance of a man, somatisms, substantival adjectives, norm, semantics
