Abstract: The article presents the results of the investigation showing how gender oppositions are marked in the system of metaphoric nominations in the Russian language picture of the world. The analysis involves three basic structural components of a metaphoric meaning: referent image (direct nominative meaning), resultant image (metaphoric meaning) and correlation base of the direct nominative and the resultant meaning.
