Abstract: The paper investigates the typology of the structure of the speech sound chains in languages and their dialects. On the basis of dominant phonetic features of sound pictures typological distances have been built between linguistic objects, i.e. languages and their dialects. With due regard for the threshold value of the TMB coefficient the linguistic objects to be analyzed are classified into dialects or separate languages in accordance with their typological distances.

Keywords: typology, speech sound chains, language, dialect, sound distances, language taxon
