Abstract: The paper analyses the composition and poetical features of shaman song folklore. The analysis is based on the author’s field recordings of shaman songs performed by one of the last ritual specialists among the Khakasses-Sagays. The author focuses his attention on the genres of shaman folklore defined by the performer as a saryn ‘song’. Study is made of the correlation between the verbal and musical structures of the texts; a comparison is drawn between shaman and traditional songs. Features of different genres are brought to light.
