Abstract: The paper is focused on the characteristics of the development of the odorative metaphorical microsystem in Russian. Based on the analysis of the data from various lexocographic sources and from the literary texts of the 11th–16th centuries, the author explores the dynamics of the semantic changes in the lexemes of the semantic field «Smell» to reveal the leading metaphorical models characteristic of different time periods.
