ArticleName: Repertory of the book manufacture at the Tomsk private printing offices at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century (on the basis of data from the G.K. Tyumentsev Library) Authors: Ayzikova I.A. Tomsk State University, Tomsk, Russian Federation In the section Study of literature
Abstract: The article defines the peculiarities in book repertoire of private publishing houses in Tomsk at the end of the XIX–XX centuries producing the most part of Tomsk books with regards to the demands of Tomsk readers. The material for study is the library of the local historian, teacher, and typical representative of Tomsk intelligentsia at the turn of the XIX century G.K. Tumentsev. The author’s attention is focused on the repertoire of publishing houses of P.I. Makushin and V.V. Mikhailov, V.P. Kartamyshev, M.N. Kononov and I.F. Skulimovskiy and others. The relationship between the range extension of book production and rapid development of Tomsk printing industry as well as between these processes and increasing demand of readership in the University City is established. The conclusion is drawn that Tomsk publishing industry and book selling were complementary processes presenting Tomsk as a polygraphic and cultural centre of Siberia.
