Abstract: The article regards some mental changes in an average man’s mind at 1840s comparing with the typical intellectual culture of 1820s based on the plot of the trial of interpersonal relationships. The subject of research are Turgenev’s story «Two mates» and Pushkin’s verse novel «Evgeny Onegin». The conclusion is the cultural difference of characters involves paradigmatic reconstruction of literature in whole.
