Abstract: The article is devoted genre differentiation Altay proverbs and sayings. The analysis of the special literature on folklore genre stratification and research of structure and semantics Altay proverbs and sayings have allowed to carry them to two independent genres. The Altay proverbs (kep-söstör) are short, the two-private phrases of the instruc-tive character having the forms of finished offers organised, as a rule (simple or diffi-cult) both straight lines and the figurative senses expressed mainly by means of stylistic figures (syntactic parallelism). The Altay sayings (ukaa-söstör) are the short, usually spasmodic, one-private phrases characterising separate properties of the natural phenomena or conditions of the person and having literal or figurative values, expressed by means of direct names or figurative means of language (comparisons, metaphors, etc.).
