ArticleName: Topology of Sound Concepts in Modern English Authors: Viktor D. Maximov Altai State University, Barnaul, Russian Federation In the section Linguistics
Abstract: The article describes the interaction between spatial and sound concepts within discourse units. Though the sound is not a three-dimensional volumetric thing, the speakers treat it as a material object that travels in space along certain vectorial paths. Locative relations in phononymy acquire specific features. Namely, in certain types of phonosemantic utterances, the place names become more abstract and nonconventional (sometimes coinciding with phononyms). But the physical whereabouts of sounds with-in the framework of the communicative situation are registered relative to the Recipient who assumes the role of the reference point (landmark). Keywords: sound, sound concept, phononym, spatial concept, verbalization Bibliography: |
