Abstract: The current article deals with an approach to the problem of Indo-European con-sonants on the basis of the net principle which was offered by N.S.Trubetskoy. The scrutiny of consonantal developments in Proto-Germanic allows the author to explain the selectivity of the Verner Law regarding fricative consonants.
